FRIENDS
A Friend is like an old song, grown sweeter with the years;

A Friend will share a crust of bread, or help to lift a load;
Happy are we who find, a few Good Friends along life’s road.


PROMOTION SUNDAY
We will be holding our annual Sunday School Promotion on Sunday, August 26, 2012, at 9:30 AM. If you are going into 1st, 3rd 6th, or high school, you will be promoted to the next class at this time. Perfect Attendance Awards will also be given out on this Sunday. We will meet in the sanctuary for all presentations at 9:30 AM following our regular classes. We hope all may attend on this special day.


CHURCH PICNIC
This year, our annual church picnic will be Sunday evening, July 29. We have the pavilion reserved in Memorial Park, in Manito, from 4 PM throughout the evening. We will eat at 5 PM sharp. Please bring food & drink to share, along with your own plates, glasses, silverware, & lawn chairs. We also have the pool rented from 6 – 7:30, so bring your kids, grandkids, and swimming gear.


CHURCH SPECIALS
We are now looking for those who would be willing to share a musical special or reading with us during our worship service. There is a sign-up sheet on the bulletin board or contact Pastor Tom.


SINGSPIRATION
We will be having a Singspiration on July 29 during our worship service. Please let Pastor Tom know if you are willing to do a musical special on the 29th.


BUILDING COMMITTEE UPDATE
A congregational meeting for the building addition was held on Tues., June 19. BLDD provided an update on the project including review of floor plan, budget, schedule, carpet, paint colors, brick, etc. Computer views of the interior and exterior were shown. These provided a realistic prospective of what the finished building will look like. Final design documents are nearing completion. CLDD will meet with the Building Committee and Church Board in July to review the bid package and approve the list of prospective contractors. The work will then be sent for bids with a contract award planned for August. We hope to be breaking ground on the new addition in August! We ask the congregation for their continued financial support and prayers as this project heads into the next phase. Thanks!


CHURCH BOARD HIGHLIGHTS
The Church Council met on Mon., June 18. The Secretary Report was reviewed and approved. The Treasurer’s Report was reviewed and Judi shared that the real estate taxes for the parsonage and the property across the street have been received and she will be paying them. VBS will be starting Sun., June 24. Pastor Tom is starting a post-high school Sunday School Class, beginning July 15. The church picnic is set for Sunday, July 29. The pool and pavilion have been reserved. The trustees reported that the trees have been taken down across the street, and air conditioner at the parsonage quit and had to be repaired. A front door and storm door needs to be purchased. The Council approved the purchase. Lynn Guengerich is retiring as Sunday School Superintendent as of August 26 and that position needs to be filled. There was a congregational meeting Tues., June 19 about the addition. BLDD was present to answer questions.


HAPPY 90TH BIRTHDAY
Paul Meeker will celebrate his 90th birthday on Monday, August 6. His address is 810 S. Lincoln, Manito, IL 61546. He would enjoy receiving birthday cards from his church family. HAPPY 90th BIRTHDAY, PAUL!
